In my personal opinion, the best website builder for vegan food businesses and restaurants is Squarespace.

1.) First, make a list of the functions you want the website to have.

Before you pick a Squarespace template for your foodservice business, It’s important to think about the functions that you need to run your business.

As someone in the vegan food service industry, you’re probably looking for a way to streamline your business with a website, but not sure about the different options and which one is the best.

It really just depends, I wrote a round-up article about the best vegan restaurant website designs for inspiration with the hope that by seeing how other people have set up their website, it will be helpful in deciding how you want to approach getting your website set up.

I know a lot of people start out selling on Instagram through Dm’s and then at some point it becomes overwhelming and they start looking into getting a website.

The positive side about having your customers order on a website is it’s less work for you and creates a nice experience for your customers so they keep coming back.

Customer experience is huge in the foodservice industry and if your customers have an easy time moving around your website it’s just as important as how good the food is, so setting up a streamlined process is an important step!

If you want your customers to be able to place orders directly on your website instead of taking orders through Instagram dm’s, then it’s important to incorporate an online ordering system.

At the moment Squarespace doesn’t have its own online ordering system integrated within the back end, so what most shop owners do is hook up a 3rd-party like Square, Chownow, etc.

With that being said Squarespace recently bought Tock. Tock is a hospitality app that’s dedicated to the restaurant industry. It can be used for online ordering, reservations, and much more.

Expect to see it fully integrated with Squarespace soon, which will be great for people looking for an all-in-one platform!

2.) Second, what kind of style do you want the vibe to be?

Do you want a minimal and simple website or do want a more colorful one? Pick a website that matches closest to the style that you want otherwise, you'll have to do a lot of customization on your own which can be time-consuming.

Keep in mind that the Squarespace templates for restaurants and food businesses that are on the Squarespace website are free, but many businesses hire a web designer to customize it a bit more to fit the vibe they're going for.

But that shouldn’t stop you from DIYing it if that’s your thing. Maybe you like the colors on a particular website template over another or maybe you like the way it’s laid out over another.

Spend some time scrolling through the free restaurant templates and really think about the style you like the best. All the free Squarespace templates have the same function if you're using the latest version.

For example, if you like the way an individual Squarespace template is laid out, and it’s not a restaurant template, you can still use it because they’re all interchangeable.

The only difference between the individual templates is the style, so if you like a style that’s outside your industry you can still use it. But you would need to think about the layout.

For example, a website that’s designed for a salon will be laid out differently than one for a restaurant, but there’s no harm in using it if you think the layout will work for your business.

If you work with a professional designer, you don’t have to worry about picking a template because the designer will pick it out for you and then customize it the way that works best for your business.

The latest version of Squarespace is called 7.1, and chances are if you landed on the website the only options that are presented to you are 7.1.

If you want to peep the older versions you can, just scroll down past all the templates and at the bottom, there is an option to look at the older options.

3.) Choose between free and paid Squarespace templates.

You can check out all the free templates that Squarespace offers for food businesses on their website.

If you are wanting more options and looking for templates that perhaps have a little bit more individuality there are sites where you can buy Squarespace templates for restaurants and food businesses.

An important thing to keep in mind is that there are thousands of restaurants all picking out the same templates, so they’ll look very similar to each other if you pick a Squarespace template for food businesses.

For example, there might be 20 restaurants in your town that want to DIY their website, and there’s only a handful of restaurant templates to choose from on the Squarespace website so there’s a good chance that everyone is going to be picking the same template.

If you want your website to look different than others, you can go off the beaten path a bit and buy a restaurant template from an independent Squarespace designer.

Or you can just hire a Squarespace designer and they’ll take care of the customization AKA making it unique.
