Five reasons I use Squarespace instead of other CMS website builders.
I love using Squarespace for my personal website and designing for clients.
Squarespace is a dependable and reliable CMS.
It’s a closed source content management system. If you’re thinking I have no idea what that means. I got you!
It’s really simple. It means the source code is not shared with the public for anyone to look at or change.
Why does that matter to you? Squarespace has its own headquarters and a team of developers who maintain the backend of your website.
Everything that you need for the website to function properly has already been thought of by the developers and has been included on the website.
The Squarespace templates are minimalistic and designed to convert users into customers because of the clean UX -UI designs on the templates!
You don’t need to add plugins or anything else to it.
It’s an all-in-one platform so to speak. The platform maintenance is all done for you! All the updates, security, backups, bug fixes, and everything else is done by the Squarespace programming team! Why is that good for you?
It saves time and money! You don’t have to spend time researching which plugins will work for your website, and you don’t have to pay a developer to maintain it for you which is super costly.
Some of my friends use WordPress, and I’m always hearing from them the problems they are having maintaining their site. It doesn’t sound like fun!
Let’s talk a little bit about WordPress. It is an open-source CMS, so the source code is accessible by anyone to make changes and modify.
I am not mad at it in any way, it’s just that the usability is not really built with the layman in mind, hence the reason my friends are always having trouble using it! True Story!
Open source platforms may have security problems. The security of your platform could be at risk if you don’t know how to update your site correctly. If you start messing around with it yourself and press the wrong buttons you could potentially break your site.
Alright, so here are the perks of using Squarespace!!
1.) Live Chat and 24-7 email support.
This might not seem like a big deal, but there is nothing like being in the middle of working on your website and not being able to fix your problem.
They for sure got your back, which is why I love using Squarespace. Whenever I reach out to them, they usually respond pretty quickly and my questions are always answered, which is a huge relief!!
My problem is usually fixed within the hour, and most of the time I get a response just minutes later. That is excellent customer service!!
They take the time out to do personal video screen tutorials on how to do something. I am very pleased with the customer support. It’s huge knowing that I can reach out for help whenever I need to get proper answers.
You don’t have to go searching all over the internet for solutions to your problems, which saves heaps of time. Just go into the backend of your website and email them. There are also heaps of tutorials and other learning resources available to you on the Squarespace website.
2.) Built-in email marketing
It can be confusing to figure out which email service provider to choose from, so I am here to help you out with that.
First, let me explain the types of emails.
1.) Business emails- Day-to-day inquires you receive from people who are using your website. For example, I am a web designer and I have a form for clients to fill out on my website, and all of the inquires route back to my business email address.
I also have my business email address listed throughout my site, so if anyone has any questions about my services; it all gets directed to my business email. For my business emails, I use G-suite.
I recommend business owners use G-suite for their everyday email use for Squarespace websites.
G-suite provides you with a professional email address. If you use your regular email for business it looks less professional.
You can sign up for G-suite on the back end of your Squarespace website. Home Menu, click Settings, then click Email & G Suite.
Follow the prompts to choose a plan and create your account. For additional help and questions, you might have about getting set up contact Squarespace. The first year is free and then it’s about 5-10 dollars a month depending on what plan you choose.
2.) Marketing Emails- A marketing email is a message you send to people who have opted in to receive information from you.
This can mean you are collecting emails from a newsletter form on your website, or any opt-in gifts, or a subscribe form. It all needs to get routed to the correct email platform.
If you want to start an email list and cultivate relationships with customers and provide them with information about your services through email consistently, having an email marketing strategy in place is important.
Most of the time, people who get marketing emails aren’t looking to buy from you right away. It just means they need helpful information and are looking for solutions to their problems, and they might buy from you down the road.
I recommend using Squarespace email campaigns when you’re first starting out to collect emails and write newsletters.
When you’re first starting out you’re not going to get many email subscribers for your newsletter, so it might be a good idea to start out with Squarespace email campaigns for your marketing efforts. It’s simple straightforward and already in the backend of your Squarespace site.
Everything is in one spot which is really nice. I don’t have to spend time logging in and out on different platforms. It’s great for beginners and for businesses that have been around a while too! It’s great for everyone no doubt cuz it’s simple to use.
You can create and schedule newsletters, it offers automated email sequences and has amazingly designed email templates to use that are customizable.
You can also pull content from your website to add to your emails like blog posts etc. Learn more about getting your email marketing set up.
To get started, just set up your sender profile and mailing list and you are ready to go! Just go to the marketing tab, then go to email campaigns, then go to create sender profile.
You’ll then be ready to start a mailing list. The sender profile is just linking up your business email account with the Squarespace email campaigns platform, so when customers hit reply, they will get directed back to your business email.
Even if you are not going to use the email campaigns you should still get familiar with it.
If you have any Squarespace newsletter blocks set up on your website, you can set the default to the Squarespace email campaign without having to pay for anything, which will allow you to collect email addresses as they come in.
3.) The user interface for Squarespace websites is really intuitive and easy to use.
There is a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, you will be off and running. It’s worth the time investment to learn.
Squarespace is built with the layman in mind, so it is not at all tricky or difficult to pick up! I am not a computer geek at all, in fact, I didn’t have a computer or a cell phone for the longest, so don’t be intimidated by it. You got this!
4.) One-stop-shop!
You don’t need a separate hosting service, Squarespace uses its own hosting services which is great.
You can connect third-party domains if you need to or use a Squarespace domain. Domains are free for the first year on Squarespace and are easy to set up!
Design your website, hook up your domain, use email and blog- all within the platform. Everything you need to get your business going is included all in one little nugget!!
5.) E-commerce integration!
If you have products you want to sell, you can set up Squarespace for an online shop.
The templates are all modern and great looking, so your shop will turn out really nice.
It’s easy to customize and any layout can be tweaked to get it just the way you want it.
Their inventory system is quite good as well as flexible product variant features, unlimited products, and it configures sales tax. You’ll have everything you need to get started with your online store!
